2019 Mazda CX-5 SKYACTIV®-D 2.2-Liter Diesel Engine Option

Mazda recently announced the arrival of the 2019 CX-5 Signature AWD with a SKYACTIV®-D 2.2-liter diesel engine at the 2019 New York International Auto Show. With pre-sales starting immediately, this new engine offers drivers an ideal combination of performance and efficiency. This is just one of many exciting additions to the popular CX-5 model.

According to Mazda, the SKYACTIV®-D 2.2 engine is estimated to deliver 168 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 290 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm. This powertrain achieves an EPA-estimated 27 mpg in the city, 30 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined.* Plus, this engine not only has impressive torque and gas mileage, but it also comes with a smoother response at high and low engine speeds, as well as increased low- and high-end torque.

“As Mazda continues our climb toward premium, we will offer more powertrain choices that premium customers expect,” said Guyton. “I am happy to share that Mazda’s SKYACTIV®-D 2.2-liter diesel engine is joining the U.S. powertrain lineup with our debut model, the 2019 CX-5 Signature AWD with SKYACTIV®-D.”

The Mazda brand also paired with federal and state agencies in the U.S., like the California Air Resources Board, to ensure that the new diesel engine meets emission standards and passes regulations. That means you can get better torque and gas mileage while reducing emissions.

2019 Mazda CX-5’s Safety Rating Is a Top Safety Pick+

If you have safety as a top priority for your next vehicle, take a look at the 2019 Mazda CX-5’s safety rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it the Top Safety Pick+ designation.

Every couple of years, the IIHS makes it more difficult for automakers to achieve its top safety rating. For 2019, the requirements were tightened again with the addition of a “good” rating for the small overlap front crash test on the passenger side. The CX-5 is one of about 30 vehicles to earn the top rating for 2019, making it one of the safest vehicles on the road.

Of the achievement, president and CEO of Mazda North American Masahiro Moro said, “Each year the IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick+’ becomes more difficult to attain but our dedication to excellent engineering continues to shine.”

Along with its good crash test results, the CX-5 comes standard with a host of advanced safety features including Smart City Brake Support, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Additional features as part of the i-ACTIVESENSE® package include lane departure warning, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, automatic windshield wipers, and an upgraded forward collision warning system.
